Can an AR Drone carry a Go Pro Hero?

September 11, 2011 in Blogger me...

So I have seen a few blogs a say that the AR drone can’t carry a Go Pro. Well we put it to the test! I’d like to say we had some hi-tec solution to mounting the camera but the reality is if you can’t fix it with hot glue or “fencing wire” then it is FUBAR! (F###ed Up Beyond All Recognition)

There was a tense moment when the Drone hesitated but that could have been interference from the underground power lines, yeah had that problem before. 40-50Mhz? run your AM RC over that little problem and watch the ghost in the machine take the controls! I had a day when I was sure someone else was on my band but I eventually figured it out. The 2.4gig gear was oblivious to the problem. Apparently the accuracy of the frequency is a big deal and it is how some home electric clock keep time or don’t keep time if the output from the local power station is out of wack!

Anyway I digress! So the trial although shaky at first went well. The Drone is a pretty clever piece of gear and corrected for my shoddy mounting technique. The picture off the Go Pro is much better than the recording from the “Flight record” app which I thought was the pick of the bunch. The Go Pro I used here was the old version because of the weight difference but my guess is it will lift the slightly weightier version of the Go Pro too.

Enjoy RC fans!  Check out the proof here
