Hot Bodies made a kit to convert a HPI Savage X into the Truckzilla Big Twin. Which will basically turn your Savage X into this.


Tragically this kit is no longer in production. You may score one from a Hobby shop that has old stock or as I did someone selling one on eBay. I had to leave a search active and wait for someone to post one for sale. I wasn’t a fan of the hot bodies engines so I ditched them for the stock HPI K46 engines which I think are great for “bashing” they are easy to run in, easy to start and can withstand an absolute hammering and come back for more!

Probably the next hardest bit is to get your diffs to hold together! My version was a little off plan but I got sidetracked and then probably should have polished it and left it on a shelf but that was never going to happen!

Big Twin Conversion TwinZilla

The next Twin project I built was from secondhand parts and was the Mighty Ofna Titan Twin.

Yeah see you stopped scrolling down right there didn’t you! This was just such a ballsy looking beast I just had to have a crack at building one. Sadly parts for this are actually rarer than rocking horse shit. It took almost a year to get the bits because most of what i got was second hand and was pretty much rooted. Towards the end I abandoned the notion of getting original parts and started to just go with what would fit.

When it goes this thing truly flies and is probably the fastest RC I have in spite of it’s weight! Unfortunately it eats diffs and is very hard to resist the temptation to give it WOT just to hear see and smell this thing do it’s thing! Because shortly after you will be putting a new diff together.

Finally I took the obsession too far and bought a Kyosho Giga Crusher twin force from some dodgy guy in China. It turned out to be a clone and a bucket of puss with a hair in it.

Although I have had the engines running they have never run well enough to actually move the car along the ground due to numerous drive train and other issues. But i haven’t given up yet. And here’s a picture!

So in summary I guess I just lucky that my neighbours don’t mind a bit of noise!
